Accessibility

MOATE is meant to be readable by everyone. We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and we treat accessibility issues as bugs.

Display options

The Display button in the site header (the circle-half icon) opens options that are saved in your browser and apply to every page:

Theme — follow your system setting, or force light or dark.
Text size — standard or large. Layouts reflow; nothing is clipped.
Motion — turn off the moving Moat Index ticker and other animation. We also honor your operating system's "reduce motion" setting automatically.

Semantic HTML with proper headings, landmarks, and a skip-to-content link.
Every page works with keyboard only; focus is always visible.
Color is never the only carrier of meaning — the Moat Strength meters carry a number and a label, and category colors are paired with a diamond and the category name.
Text and background colors meet AA contrast in both light and dark themes.
The scoring quiz uses native range inputs with visible values so it works with screen readers and switch devices.
No autoplaying video or audio. The ticker pauses on hover and can be turned off.
Cover images are decorative and marked as such; the information is in the text.

Community score columns load after the page and announce their update politely; if you rely on a screen reader and find this disorienting, please tell us.
